Childhood memories

This project was born with the intent of designing a lamp to enjoy an intense moment of conviviality.
Eventually, I thought about a way to “visualize” the light – which has no shape – and devised a lantern capable of materializing it by reflecting or projecting shadows.

The woven lampshade seems to trap the light, evoking different sensations when turned on or off.
The polypropylene cord – suitable for outdoors – is weaved around an aluminum frame, varying the pitch of the mesh to give more tridimensionality to the light and shadow effects.
It is available in three different sizes with the lighting component, integrated with the handle, in common.

The inspiration came from a childhood memory when I was in Japan.
Over there, it is a custom to enjoy little fireworks called senkō hanabi – or “sparkler” – on summer evenings: tiny sparks scatter around from an incandescent drop that slowly burns out and falls in the dark.
I remember I was fascinated by this phenomenon, as beautiful as ephemeral, that still recalls the time spent with family and friends.

幼い頃の記憶

Convivialな時間を演出する照明器具を提案したい、そんな思いからこのプロジェクトはスタートした。
やがて形を持たない光というものを”見える化”する方向に興味を持ち、反射したり影を投影する事で光の存在を感じるシェードを考案した。

編み込みによる透明性を持ったシェードはまるで空気を閉じ込めたような存在となり、照明のon/off時において異なる印象となった。
屋外での仕様にも耐えうるアルミ性のフレームにポリプロピレン性のコードを編込み、そのフォルムに沿うように編み目の密度に変化を与える事でシェードと透過する光に立体性を持たせた。
大中小の3つのサイズ展開がされているが、光源は本体上部のハンドル部と一体となった共通パーツによって展開されている。

インスピレーションは幼い時期に日本で過ごした記憶だ。
日本では夏の夜に線香花火を楽しむ習慣がある。
マグマのように発光する雫から繊細で小さな星が飛び散る。無音の世界で繰り広げられるその時間は雫が大きくなって落ちた瞬間に終わり真っ暗な世界だけが残る、、、幼い頃の僕はそのうつろいゆく美の儚さを夢中になって追い求めた。
今でも鮮明に思い出されるその記憶は、家族や友人と外で過ごした時間と混ざり合い時を経ても温かい気持ちにさせてくれる。
